New Bus Station Opening Date Announced
Lincoln Business Improvement Group (Lincoln BIG) has announced that Lincoln’s brand new bus station will open on the 28th January 2018 concluding the Transport Hub development which includes the new Train Station forecourt, a pedestrian plaza linking the Transport Hub together and a new car park with 1,000 spaces.
This new bus station will have 14 bays which, Lincoln BIG says, will see 650 departures each weekday. At the bus station is a building containing 590 m2 of waiting space for passengers with seating. There is also office space, public toilets, lifts, state-of-the-art passenger information system with interactive touchscreens and a café.
The building in the bus station will have the city’s first public Changing Places toilet which contains a shower and hoist. According to the Changing Places website, a Changing Places toilet “have more space and the right equipment, including a height adjustable changing bench and a hoist”.
Major Developments Director at City of Lincoln Council, Kate Ellis has said:
“The Transport Hub scheme helps the city council achieve our vision of delivering Lincoln’s ambitious future and our priority of driving economic growth in Greater Lincoln.The new bus station and wider Transport Hub project will help revitalise the key visitor arrival point into the city centre.We are currently working toward our provisional opening date of 28 January and, all being well, we will be able to confirm this date on 15 January following completion of the external works and final bus trials.We are very happy with the work that has already been done – the bus station is looking great and provides a fantastic link with the train station and new car park. The Transport Hub fits seamlessly into the city both physically and visually.Once we have a definite opening date confirmed we will also be pleased to announce a public open day prior to the full opening, so that people can take a look around and familiarise themselves with the facility.”
